Reflections After the Win: What It Means to Lead Differently in Architecture

Last week, I received the Women Leaders Award 2025 in the Manufacturing & Construction category.
It was a moment of quiet pride—but more than that, it was a pause to reflect. Not just on my own journey, but on the kind of practice I’ve chosen to build at Lumin.
Because this win isn’t about being the loudest or most prolific architect in the room.
It’s about doing things differently.

Why I started Lumin
I founded Lumin Architects in London in 2019. The early years were fast-paced: multiple residential projects, exciting briefs, and a real momentum. Then, life shifted. I moved out of London and became a mother—and my pace of work had to evolve.
I chose not to grow for growth’s sake. Instead, I focused on:
Working with clients who share our values: quality over quantity, intention over impulse.
Designing with clarity and warmth, so every space we create supports real life—not just lifestyle goals.
Building a business that integrates motherhood, creativity, and leadership—on my own terms.
What this award represents
This award tells me there’s space—and appetite—for a different kind of leadership in our industry.
One that’s:
Quietly consistent
Thoughtful, rather than rushed
Rooted in sustainability, care and precision
Clients often come to us unsure how to move forward with their project. Sometimes they’ve been burned by past consultants. Sometimes they’re overwhelmed by decision fatigue or budget concerns.
What we offer is not just design—but clarity, stability, and a sense of trust.

What we’re building next
At Lumin, we’re currently working on:
A sensitive conversion of a stables annexe in a conservation area
Two multi-home Stage 4 projects for a design-conscious developer
And a handful of eco-led renovations for families who want to make the most of where they live
Our work is growing—but with intention. Every client, every project, every partnership is carefully chosen. Because good design starts with alignment.
If you’re planning a project
This blog isn’t just to mark a milestone—it’s to extend a hand.
If you’re:
A family thinking of reimagining your home
A developer who values design integrity and sustainability
Or simply someone looking for a partner who listens as much as they lead
Then perhaps now is a good time to start a conversation.
Thank you to the Women Leaders Awards for this incredible honour. And thank you to every client who’s trusted us to help shape their space—and their story.
